Hailing from the celebrated British bindery, Sangorski & Sutcliffe, renowned for their splendid cover of Omar Khayyam's "Rubaiyat," is this resplendent design. The bindery's establishment in 1901, in the heart of London, marked the beginning of their journey to dominance in the bookbinding industry during the twentieth century.
Among their celebrated works were the jewelled bindings, like the one replicated here. Initially designed in 1922 to encase Rudyard Kipling's 1897 poem "Recessional," written in honour of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, it boasted an opulent collection of genuine gemstones including turquoise, aquamarine, and ruby. Striking medieval-style illuminations by Alberto Sangorski embellished the cover further, and George Sutcliffe’s artful gold tooling added an extra layer of elegance. This reproduction by Paperblanks transports one back to a time of extraordinary artistic craft and opulence.
